The panel of National Experts for ACMDC comprises of 10 renowned and eminent Diabetologists/Endocrinologists and Cardiologists of the country. This panel is the advisory body for the course in terms of content and curriculum review, finalization and effective session conduction modalities.

Dr. Ambuj Roy, New Delhi

Dr. Roy is presently Additional Professor of Cardiology and Consultant Cardiology at Cardio Thoracic Sciences Centre in AIIMS, New Delhi. He has completed his MBBS, MD, DM from Delhi. He is a member of European Society of Cardiology, Society of Cardiology of Russian Federation, Cardiology Society of India and American Society of Echocardiography.

He is a section editor of Global Heart (official journal of the WHF), Assistant Editor of Journal of Preventive Cardiology, Invited reviewer for- JACC Interventional Cardiology, International Journal of Cardiology, BMJ Open, Journal of Epidemiology and Community Health, National Medical Journal of India, Indian journal of Medical Research, Asian Cardiovascular and Thoracic Annals, Invited external reviewer for MD thesis for Delhi University students, Invited external examiner for DM Cardiology entrance exam for SMS, Jaipur and IGIMS, Shimla, Invited honorary member of Research Advisory Board of Heart Related Information Amongst Youth NGO (HRIDAY), member of the Task Force and the Writing Group for formulating “Indian Guidelines for management of Acute Coronary Syndrome in low resource settings.” Member, Institute Ethics Committee (Institute Review Board) at AIIMS, Certified investigator for human research projects by clearing Human Participants Protection Education for Research Teams online course, sponsored by the National Institutes of Health (NIH).

Dr. Roy has been the recipient of the Mohan Lal Nayar Award for the Best Junior Resident for the year 1996 at Maulana Azad Medical College & Lok Nayak Hospital, New Delhi, Jagdish Lal Kapila Award for the Best Postgraduate Student in Cardiology at AIIMS for the year 2003. He is also selected as Fellow to the “41st Ten Day Teaching Seminar in Cardiovascular Disease Epidemiology and Prevention” organized by International Society of Cardiovascular Disease Epidemiology and Prevention at Oxford, UK and Emerging Leader by WHF in 2014 amongst several international applicants.

Dr. Upendra Kaul, New Delhi

Dr. Kaul is MD, DM, FCSI, FICC, FACC, FSCAI, FAMS and currently Executive Director and Dean at Fortis Escorts Heart Institute and Research Center and Fortis Hospital Vasant Kunj New Delhi.

He is a highly recognized name both nationally and internationally for his work in cardiovascular sciences. He is known as a passionate teacher and an astute clinician who is credited with starting the coronary angioplasty program in India and continues to bring innovative techniques in interventional cardiology to the country. He was also on the faculty of G B Pant Hospital, PGIMER Chandigarh and AIIMS where he served as Professor of cardiology.

He established cardiology units at several hospitals in Government and private sector. These include C T Center AIIMS, Batra Hospital, Fortis hospital NOIDA, Vasant Kunj and SSIHMS at Puttaparthy. AP. Dr. Kaul has trained more than 350 cardiologists and has authored more than 400 papers and written many books. He is a visiting professor to several overseas universities as well.

He is a fellow of several prestigious societies in cardiology both nationally and internationally and has delivered many named orations. He has held the posts of President of “Cardiological Society of India" and SAARC Cardiac Society. Currently he is a Trustee of the SCAI, USA. Among the numerous recognitions for his contributions he has also been awarded the Dr. B. C. Roy Award and Padam Shri.

Dr. Mihir Saikia (Guwahati, Assam)

Dr. Saikia graduated from Assam Medical College, Dibrugarh, in 1971 (Best Graduate) and qualified for MD (Medicine) in 1976. Thereafter, he obtained a Post Doctoral Fellowship in Endocrinology (1981-1983) from the University of Cambridge Clinical School and Associated Addenbrooke's Hospitals, Cambridge, U.K. He has recently retired from the Department of Endocrinology, Guwahati Medical College, Guwahati, as Professor and Head of Department of Endocrinology. Prof. Saikia has 35 publications including textbook contributions. As a faculty member of various national associations, he has delivered guest lectures within and outside the country.

Dr. Rajeev Gupta (Jaipur, Rajasthan)

Dr. Gupta is working as Chairman, Research Development Unit, Rajasthan University of Health Sciences, Government of Rajasthan and Senior Consultant Medicine; Director Research & Academics, Fortis Escorts Hospital, Jaipur. He has completed his MBBS, MD (Medicine) and PhD. in Social & Preventive Medicine in 2006. He is internationally known for his contributions to cardiovascular epidemiology.

He is pioneer in coronary heart disease and hypertension epidemiology in India and has established the first cardiovascular epidemiology research laboratory in nongovernmental sector in the country. He is in the editorial board of Indian Heart Journal, South Asian Journal of Preventive Cardiology, Hypertension India, Journal of Preventive Cardiology, Journal of Clinical and Preventive Cardiology respectively. Dr. Gupta is also chair of Hypertension Task Force, Indian Council of Medical Research, Government of India and Centre for Development Communications, Jaipur. He is Convenor, Prevention Council, Cardiological Society of India and member of projects approval committee, Indian Council of Medical Research, Government of India.

Dr. Gupta has been recipient of Hypertension Society of India- Dr. S N Shah Oration, Cardiological Society of India- Dr. V V Shah (NSPHERE) Oration and Gold Medal, Indian Council of Medical Research, Government of India, ICMR- Chaturvedi Award & Gold medal. He has lectured extensively all over India and abroad on topics of his research. He has received multiple research grants from Government of India (ICMR, DST, DBT) and international agencies such as NIH (USA). Dr. Gupta has 650 publications, 350 original articles published in various international and national journals, 105 review articles including invited articles in international books and 170 abstracts in national and international conferences and journals.

Dr. Subhankar Chowdhury (Kolkata, West Bengal)

Dr. Chowdhury; DTM&H, MD in General Medicine, DM Endocrinology, MRCP (UK) is currently serving as Head, Department of Endocrinology, IPGME & R and SSKM Hospital, Calcutta , Immediate Past President, Endocrine Society of India, President of Endocrine Society of Bengal, Founder Patron, South Asian Federation of Endocrine Societies. Dr. Chowdhury is also the Member of Annual Meeting Steering Committee (AMSC), International Congress of Endocrinology jointly with Annual Scientific Conference of Endocrine Society of USA, 2014 and Member, National Advisory Board, Indian Journal of Endocrinology and Metabolism.

He has also acted as PhD guide on several occasions and is an examiner in Endocrinology in DM and DNB courses. He is a regular invited speaker at National Conferences on Diabetes and Endocrinology for more than 20 years and Principal Investigator in several International Registration Clinical Trials over last 15 years. Dr. Satyavan Sharma (Mumbai, Maharashtra)

Dr. Sharma did his MD (Medicine, 1976) from SMS College, Jaipur under Dr. S R Mehta. He started his cardiology career from CMC, Vellore and did DM (Cardiology) MNAMS (Cardiology) from KEM Hospital, Mumbai. Currently he is Professor and Head of Cardiology, Bombay Hospital Insitute of Medical Sciences, Mumbai, India and consultant interventional cardiologist at Bombay Hospital Mumbai.

He is receipent of several fellowships including Fellow of National Academy of Medical Sciences (FAMS), Fellow of American College of Cardiology (FACC), Fellow of Society for Cardiac Angiography and Interventions (FSCAI) and Fellow of European Society of Cardiology (FESC). Earlier (1986 to 1992), he was Professor and Head of Cardiology, BYL Nair Hospital and TN Medical College, President of Cardiological Society of India (CSI) (1996-1997), President of SAARC Cardiac Society (2000-2002) and Chief co-ordinator National PTCA Registry of India. He is examiner for DM (Cardiology) in various Universities and chairs selection committee panels of several universities and teaching institutions. He is examiner for fellowship in Interventional Cardiology (conducted by National Academy) and also on several recommending committies of Academy.

His expertise is in interventional cardiology and has vast experience in coronary, valvar and structural heart interventions. Has 80 international publications, 100 in national journals and 200 abstracts and chapters in international tet book of cardiology. Has delivered many orations and guest lectures in prestigious meetings all over the world including in World Congress of Cardiology, Asian Pacific Society Meetings, Mount Sinai Hospital New York Symposium, American Society of Hypertension, Cardiac Society of Australia and New Zealand etc. Currently member, Board of Governors, International Society of Cardiovascular Pharmacotherapy (ISCP), Zurich, Switzerland.

Dr. Premlata .K. Varthakavi (Mumbai, Maharashtra)

Dr. Varthakavi, MBBS, MD (Internal Medicine), DNB (Endocrinology) is Professor and Head Department of Endocrinology at TNM College and BYL Nair Ch. Hospital, Mumbai. She is recognized by the University as a PG teacher for DM Endocrinology & Diploma Diabetology. Dr. Varthakavi has published over 40 peer reviewed original articles, 06 review articles, 55 presentations (abstracts) at various conferences. She has undertaken various research work in diabetes and insulin resistance, thyroid disorders, osteomalacia, lipid disorders, reproductive endocrinology, adrenal disorders and hirsutism.

Dr. V. Mohan (Chennai, Tamil Nadu)

Dr. Mohan is the Chairman and Chief of Diabetology at Dr. Mohan's Diabetes Specialities Centre which is a WHO Collaborating Centre for Non-communicable Diseases Prevention and Control and IDF Centre of Education. He is also President and Director of the Madras Diabetes Research Foundation. Dr. Mohan was awarded several prizes and medals during his undergraduate and postgraduate medical studies. He was also a Wellcome Trust Fellow, UK and a Fellow of the Alexander Von Humboldt Foundation, Germany. Dr. Mohan has published over 825 papers in peer reviewed journals including 528 original articles, 162 review articles and invited editorials and 139 chapters to text-books on Diabetes and Internal Medicine published in India and abroad. His current research areas of interest include Epidemiology of Diabetes and its complications, Genomics of Diabetes and Prevention of diabetes through community empowerment.

Dr. Mohan has received over 120 awards including the prestigious Dr. B.C. Roy National Award by the Medical Council of India, the Basanthi Devi Amirchand Prize from the Indian Council of Medical Research. He received Fellowships from all the four Royal College of Physicians namely, FRCP London, Edinburgh, Glasgow and Ireland and was elected Fellow of all the three Science Academies of India including the Fellowship of Indian National Science Academy (FNA), Delhi. He was also elected Fellow of American College of Endocrinology (FACE), Fellow of American College of Physicians (FACP), Honorary Fellow, Royal Society of Tropical Medicine & Hygiene, UK and Fellow, the World Academy of Sciences (FTWAS), Italy. He was also been conferred the prestigious Diabetes Technology Society Leadership Award from the Diabetes Technology Society, San Francisco, USA.

Dr. Mohan also provides a life long free treatment to thousands of poor patients through the free diabetic clinics that he runs along with the Sri Sathya Sai Organization. For his extensive contribution in the field of diabetes, Dr. Mohan was awarded the Padma Shri from the Government of India in 2012.

Dr. S. S. Srikanta (Bangalore, Karnataka)

Dr. Srikanta, MD, FACE, is the Medical Director, Senior Consultant, Founder and Managing Trustee and Gardner (Mentor), Endocrinology Diabetes at Samatvam Endocrinology Diabetes Center, Jnana Sanjeevini Medical Center and Samatvam: Science and Research for Human Welfare Trust (premier health care institutions focusing on Science- Spirituality synthesis in the context of health care, education, research and social work/ charity) in Bangalore, India, where he is working since 1993. He is a Post Graduate MD (Internal Medicine) from All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), New Delhi, India and was a Fellow in Endocrinology, Diabetes and Metabolism from Duke University Medical Center, USA. He was a Fellow, Faculty and Investigator, Endocrinology, Diabetes and Metabolism at Harvard Medical School, Brigham and Women's Hospital, Joslin Diabetes Center, USA.

Besides demonstrating and disseminating socially relevant and cost-effective unique diabetes patient care, health education and empowerment programs and models throughout the country, he has continued to train and nurture, a large number of young Endocrinologists Diabetologists (as well as other medical specialists), Diabetes Educators, Physician Assistants, MBBS, MD, PhD students, Community Health/ Social Workers, Health Administrators etc, who themselves have risen to higher echelons of science, medicine and health care world over (India, USA and other parts of overseas). He has served as Assistant Director, Endocrinology, Diabetes and Metabolism at All India Institute of Medical Sciences. He has also served as Professor and Head of Department Endocrinology, Diabetes and Metabolism and Chief, Center for Endocrine Sciences at Sanjay Gandhi Post Graduate Institute of Medical Sciences, India. He was a visiting Professor at University of Minnesota, Minneapolis, MN, (Pancreas and Islet transplantation program) and Visiting Clinician at Mayo Clinic, Rochester, and University of Michigan Medical Center, Ann Arbor, USA. Dr. K. Venugopal (Kochi, Kerala)

Dr. Venugopal, MD (Medicine) and DM (Cardiology) is currently working as Clinical Professor, Amrita Institute of Medical Sciences, Cochin and Sr. Consultant Cardiologist at K.V.M. Hospital, Chertala. He has worked in the Department of Cardiology at Medical College, Trivandrum, Alleppey and Calicut in various capacities as Assistant Professor, Associate Professor and Professor from 1986 to 2007. He was Professor and Head of the Department of Cardiology at Medical College, Calicut from 1998 to 2007 and was instrumental in establishing interventional cardiology services at Calicut Medical College.
